Dear Loved Ones,
Dan arrived home to YS Saturday afternoon! Phyllis flew to Providence
RI on Thrs and flew back with him. I met them at the airport in
Col and drove him home, and Phyllis flew on to St. Louis.
Thrs and Fri at the hospital were very busy for Dan. He had a
lumbar puncture and another MRI. Both showed that the infection
is healing well. The final analysis on the headache was that it
must be tension headache. The final analysis of the seizures is
very interesting. He gets a clonic "tick" in his lower
leg, which is not seizure activity, and that travels, and can
stimulate the motor center in the brain, which also spreads, and
then, there is a mixed seizure and non seizure componant to what
is happening. If he can relax and massage that area of muscle,
then the activity doesn't spread or doesn't spread as far.
SOOOOoooooooo, today, he is home, walking enough to go up and
down the stairs, going back and forth to the bathroom, sitting
up for meals. He also has 2 hours of IV infusion 2 times per day.
The next step is to get a double lumen PICC placed, so he can
be more mobile and not have to worry so much about timing of IVs
and bag replacement.
The kids and I are extremely, extremely happy to have him home!
From Dan "I am extremely excited to be home with my family.
My kids have changed in the 2 weeks I have been gone. I can rest
on my schedule. And um, it's just nice to be in a familiar environment.
I am also very impatient. I have to spend almost 4 hrs a day
getting the IV infusion. I spent the rest of this day resting
on the couch or sleeping.
I feel like I slept almost as much today as I did in the hospital.
The only difference is that I got up more and interacted with
people more. I am frustrated that the Dilantin and all the other
medicine is making me feel drugged and tired.
I am glad that this is a long weekend, and I am not sure what
the long term care holds for us. We are working on getting in
home care, so I think we are going to pay someone to watch me
sleep! (he says laughing!)."
With love and peace and blessings and grattitude to all,
abi and dan
