and
thank all of you for your healing prayers, thoughts and energy....
Dan's surgery went absolutely as well as we could have hoped for.
The tumor was about the size of a quarter in diameter, had clear
margins both visually and by MRI, and was completely resectable (and
resected). He has sustained a very minor additional weakness in his
foot, otherwise left surgery as he entered! Both the surgeon and the
fellow were extremely pleased with the surgery.
The tumor itself is still not graded. They said that the frozen
section was "glioma" - which we already knew... but that
the detailed pathology will take up to 10 - 12 days (with a small
chance of being in by Friday). Any further treatment will be based
on the full assessment of the pathology and on the recommendation of
the neuro-oncologist on the tumor board.
The whole procedure took about 6 hours (vs expected 8 - 10), Dan
went into it feeling well, and lovingly supported by the prayers and
healing energy sent by friends and loved ones. When I saw him in the
ICU afterwards he was in good spirits, confirming that the nurse
understood all his medications (grin, ie, telling her what he needed
and when).... and ready to rest.
The current expectation is to be in the hospital for about a week,
and be able to return to YS next week.
Thank you again for your notes of support, and we will keep you
updated.
With Awe and Wonder,
Abi
