Sociology 2180: Alcohol, Drugs, and Society
SP2018
Assignments, Readings, and Course Schedule

Test Information

All students are expected to attend both the Tuesday and Thurday class sessions. Students may attend class face-to-face (live in the classroom), live via Zoom internet connection, or by reviewing the archived Zoom class sessions each week. See "Attendance" in the syllabus for more information.

Read the assigned text material as early as you can. Review the associated online lecture notes (prior to coming to class--section 001, or attending a Zoom session (sections 001 AND 002). These notes work best when viewed online. They are web documents with links you can explore for additional information, and to seek further clarification, on selected topics. Develop critical analyses and questions for discussion both in class and via the online discussion forums. There are a variety of resources in the class MyGateway site's "Course Documents" and "External Links" folders to assist you with your self-study.

Readings listed as "Goode" are in the main text book, Erich Goode's, "Drugs in American Society." Readings listed as "AD" are in the Inciardi reader, "The American Drug Scene." Click on "Readings for Part One (Two, Three, or Four) to access these assigned readings online you'll need to logon to Roksworld (use your UMSL SSO ID and password).

Please be sure to use the "Practice Quizzes" found in the "Assignments" area. You will also find a variety of other study tools in the "Course Documents" area. It contains study guides, test study tips, and other utilities to help you prepare for the exams.

Times and Attendance: Tuesday and Thurday 12:30-1:45 PM in SSB 216. "Internet-Only" students are expected to review the Tuesday day AND the Thurday day archive each week for full attendance credit, course content, and course information. Internet-only students are always welcome to attend the live class--face-to-face or via Zoom. Don't forget your weekly "sign of life" point--part of the attendance requirement.
