ARMT Administration

The ARMT is intended for live, face-to-face administration as part of an assessment and/or interview process. Any social service or health professional with experience in working with and counseling older adults may employ the tool. While specific scores are helpful, the tool can also serve as an awareness-raiser and it is not always necessary to complete all items to open a fruitful dialogue. Use your professional judgment.

The ARMT may also be given as a paper and pencil test, but the respondent should receive some personal orientation before getting started. Many older adults do not consider and plan for mobility loss before a change in health or function requires it. The ARMT items were developed from comments made by focus group participants, and some are quite direct and strong in tone. Some respondents may feel anxious when completing these items, especially if doing so on paper and without supportive discussion.
