Subject: More on Dan...
Hmm, I am finding it hard to keep up with Dan.... He is improving in leaps and
bounds... and, although he is not quite leaping or bounding, yesterday during his PT
session he was able to WALK without any assitance! There are ways he is compensating in
his gait for muscles that don't work, but he is up, and doing it!
He also said that he worked on his arm quite a bit. When I came into the room, he said
"Shake my hand..." It took me a few seconds to realize what he wanted, then I
shook his left hand. He was able to grasp my hand with all fingers and "shake."
Then he looked at me and smiled, and said, "But I can't let go..." We laughed,
and helped his left hand let go. It was cute and sweet. It warms my heart when he is proud
of something new.... You and I know that he is amazing and is doing great things all the
time ... he has less appreciation for the little things, but becomes very proud of the big
leaps, like that one.
At home we are trying to keep up with Zachary's rigorous soccer schedule, and his
personal need to be at school at 8:30 on the dot. Hana is wanting to be home more, but is
also very happy to visit with Dan in the hospital. Two days ago, we were on our way to the
hospital when she heard a phone message from her friend Amelia.... She immediately
preferred to stay and play, and fortunately I was able to arrange it. Yet, yesterday, she
climbed in my lab and said "Can I go with you to the hospital today to see
Daddy?" Both children are eagerly watching and counting milestones in Dan's recovery.
I think this letter is reflective of my last couple of days. Saturday and Sunday I had
less time with Dan because of the soccer schedule. Yesterday, I went back to work. So,
most of what I have to report are the things he tells me rather than things I have
personally seen. It is frustrating for me to not be there more, it is a big switch to go
from 12 to 24 hours with him to 2 to 6 hours per day. Today, I will be there all day and I
am really looking forward to it.
Well, Love to all, and we will of course, continue ....
With Love and Appreciation, Abi and Dan
