Jarim Kim’s research interests lie in the intersection of public relations and health communication. Her current research focuses on (1) public/audience segmentation, particularly, why and how people become an active or remain an inactive public during crises, and (2) persuasive message design, especially, how different health or risk messages interplay with individual differences in shaping health behaviors. She has engaged in a number of collaborative research projects, funded by federal agencies, such as the Food and Drug Administration or the Department of Homeland Security. Her work has been published in the Journal of Health Communication. Her work has received top paper awards from the National Communication Association and the Association for the Education of Journalism and Mass Communication. As account executive at an ad agency, she has been involved in a number of ad campaign projects. Her teaching interests include public relations, persuasion, and health communication.
