How did Ryan Find a Path to Independence
|
At just 2-years-old, Ryan was rushed to the hospital with a 105-degree fever and at one point, he stopped breathing. He ultimately survived, and this remarkable perseverance was indicative of what he would show when faced with difficult challenges in the years to come.
Ryan’s infectious, upbeat personality allowed him to socialize and make friends, and he did well academically which led to college acceptance into the University of Missouri–St. Louis SUCCEED program that focused on helping neurodiverse students. After living on campus and completing the SUCCEED program, Ryan moved home. There he encountered some challenges. Ultimately Ryan and his family came across UWGSL partner agency Emmaus Homes, which began Ryan’s path towards stability.
Read his inspiring story and see how your support creates life-changing impact.

Uniting for Mental Wellness
Behavioral health is not just a medical issue; it’s a community one. Mental health conditions affect nearly one in five adults in the U.S. each year, yet many struggle in silence without the care they need. There are widening disparities in access to care and persistent stigma surrounding mental illness. Investing in CHC and other mental health funds can help break stigma, expand access to care, and build resilient communities where mental wellness is a shared priority.

Helping Children Overcome Obstacles
|
Kim and Tim Ringenbach’s two children faced developmental challenges that threatened to hinder their futures. After numerous failed attempts to find local, effective early childhood intervention services, the Ringenbachs moved to St. Louis in 2017. A family member told them about Missouri First Steps, which referred them to United Way of Greater St. Louis partner agency, United Services for Children. Their younger son, Leo, enrolled in the Building Blocks Intensive program, where teachers and therapists helped him develop communication, motor, and social skills. Within a couple of months, Kim and Tim began to see noticeable progress in Leo’s development and his love for United Services. “Moving here was one of the best things we’ve done,” said Kim. “Sebastien and Leo have much better futures because of the people who came together to support them.” Click here to read their full story.
