Credit Course Information

FEE WAIVER FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

Missouri residents age 65 and older may enroll in a University of Missouri-St. Louis undergraduate credit course on an audit, space-available basis (after fee-paying students have enrolled) for a $25 registration fee. Parking and any course-related fees are additional.

Proof of age and Missouri residency must be provided at time of enrollment, and any course requirements or prerequisites must be met.

Credit courses offered through Continuing Education can apply toward undergraduate and graduate degrees at UM–St. Louis. Many of the courses meet teacher certification requirements.

Undergraduate certificate and degree programs are offered by the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Business Administration, the College of Education, and the College of Nursing at UM–St. Louis.

The Graduate School also offers certificates beyond the bachelor’s degree. You are encouraged to read the appropriate sections of the University of Missouri–St. Louis Bulletin: Undergraduate, Graduate and Professional Catalog for degree requirements and/or meet with an advisor.

Virgil N. Sapp Scholarship Fund
Through the Virgil N. Sapp Scholarship Fund, partial financial assistance is available to persons enrolling in off-campus credit courses administered through Continuing Education. Scholarship guidelines and application are available by clicking the links below or by calling (314) 516-5915.

Credit Registration
Regular UM–St. Louis students who receive an e-mail message from the Registrar’s Office with an appointment time may register:

  1. online at www.umsl.edu/~register/courses/ star.htm,
  2. via the TRAIN Touchtone System at (314) 516-7000,
  3. at the Registrar’s Office in 351 Millennium Student Center, or
  4. by calling Continuing Education at (314) 516-5961 (including TDD).

New and former UM–St. Louis students should call Continuing Education at (314) 516-5961 (including TDD) for the appropriate form.

Winter Semester 2008 Educational Fees
All students enrolled in Continuing Education credit courses are required to pay University fees, as follows:

Undergraduate Resident
$235.90 per credit hour

Graduate Resident
$286.90 per credit hour

Undergraduate students living in Jersey, Madison, Monroe, and St. Clair counties in Illinois pay the same fees as those paid by Missouri undergraduate students.

The University reserves the right to modify by increase or decrease the fees charged for attendance and other services at the University, including but not limited to educational fees, at any time when in the discretion of the governing board the same is in the best interest of the University, provided that no increases can or will be effective unless approved by the governing board not less than thirty (30) days prior to the beginning of the academic term (semester, etc.) to which the fees are applicable, with all modification of fees to be effective irrespective as to whether fees have or have not been paid by or on behalf of a student prior to the effective date of the modification.

Miscellaneous Fees
For courses held on the UM–St. Louis campus, students are required to pay the following additional fees:


• Student Facility, Activity, and Health Fee: $45.83 for the first credit hour and $33.83 for each additional credit hour.

• Information Technology Fee: $11.70 per credit hour

A parking permit must be issued to those students operating a motor vehicle on campus. Parking permit fee is $18 per credit hour.

Payment of Fees
Payment for credit courses is made through the Cashier’s Office, 285 Millennium Student Center. You may pay:

By check, cash, or PIN-based debit card in person at the Cashier’s Office. You may also mail your payment by check.

By e-check, MasterCard, or Discover via the Internet at http://ebill.umsl.edu.
Beginning December 24, 2005, the University of Missouri–St. Louis will no longer accept Visa credit cards; credit card payments will only be accepted via the Internet; and a 2.75 percent (subject to change) service charge will be applied by the company processing credit card transactions. For your convenience, Internet terminals for making online payments are available outside the Cashier’s Office.

Official Withdrawal and Refunds
The University reserves the right to cancel any program. In the event of cancellation, you will be notified immediately and all program fees will be refunded. If you must cancel a registration, you are entitled to a full refund if you cancel prior to the first class meeting. After a course begins, refunds are made on a pro-rated basis in accordance with campus policy, available from the Continuing Education & Outreach Office of Credit & Noncredit Programs at (314) 516-5961.

Call (314) 516-5961 for information on canceling a registration once a course has begun. All refunds are made by mail and require a three- to five-week processing time after withdrawal.
