After graduating with a BA in English from Covenant College, Matt Kimbrell worked for Harvard University, where he helped coordinate the international peer review process for an environmental science journal.  One highlight from his time in Boston was the day that he walked the warning track at Fenway Park and beheld the Green Monster face to face.  After moving to St. Louis and earning a degree in theology, Matt enrolled in the graduate program in English at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where he won the graduate student essay award two years in a row.  Matt joined the English faculty in 2013 and teaches courses in literary criticism and composition.  In his classes Matt is an enthusiastic instructor who encourages his students to sift arguments carefully as they develop their positions.  He also hopes that his students develop a greater awareness of how language shapes our perspectives.  His interests include postcolonial textual encounters, gender construction, ecocritical concerns, and the role of the humanities in the contemporary university.
