Data taken over the period July 23 - August, 2004.

Data was taken by 4 independent GPS setups in the Research Building (R405, R403, Planetarium, and Hall), in several long runs: Beginning:

  • R405: Laptop, GPS 132, L5,L3,L6,L4 (HV in R405). L5 in ante-room, L6 in R405, L3 in R403 near opening to R405, L4 in soldering corner.
  • R403: Crossroads, GPS 116, 9A,9B,8B,8C (UMSL-8 HV) 9A overlapping L3, 9B by GPS corner, 8B in R403 by door, and 8C down the hall.
  • Planetarium: SIUE veteran (windows), GPS orig (wood), 10A,8A,7C,10B
  • Hall: Elisabeth's (Springfield computer), GPS 135, L1,10C,7B (originally also L2, but power supply, UMSL HV-1) could not give enough current).

    Rates taken with scalars generally indicated data rates higher than expected from accidentals, for triples, but doubles are mostly accidentals.

    We started with the default settings (w=10, d=6), and changed to air shower settings after JLY 27 runs: d=50, w=100.

  • JLY 27: R405 4/sec doubles accid., (2k/sec, 3.8k/sec, 1k/sec, .1k/sec at 1800V for inputs 1-4 respectively); 6/sec observed on doubles; On air shower settings
  • JLY 27: R403 at 1800V and default settings see 50/sec,40/sec,250/sec, 24/sec for inputs 1-4; expect doubles accid aobut .005/sec, see about 0.4/sec. change HV to 1900V, rates 240/sec, 169/sec,390/sec,20/sec (one pe 10.10,20, and 405 mv respectively);On air shower settings, Racc expected ~ 0.0001/sec, see ~ 0.03/sec.
  • JLY 27: Hall at 9.0 turns, ~ 1950V: 3.8K/sec,800/sec, -, 580/sec, doubles ~ 4/sec, expect ~ 1.5/sec accidentals. Reduce votlage to 8.75 turns, doubles observed ~ 1/30 per sec, rates: 506,382 -,374/sec, and one pe: 30mv,15-20 mv, -, 10 mv (for L1, 10C, 7B respectively) At lower voltage, and air shower settings: (d=50, w-100) estim. Racc (triples) ~ .0005/sec, observe ~0.01/sec
  • JLY 27: Planetarium @ 1800v: 10A failed; rates: 447, 190,37/sec for 8A,&C,10B respectively (inputs 2-4) and one pe: 7-8,7,and 2-3 mv respectively. Raise hv to 1900v: rates: 569,310,94/sec; one pe: 10-15,15-20,7 mv/respectively for 8A,7C,10B. Racc(triples) ~ 0.0001, see ~ 0.02/sec.

    List of Runs:

  • JLY23_2: Evening July 23 - am July 24 (doubles). R405 lost;
  • JLY24_2: Early am- 11:00 July 24 (doubles; R403 combined both JLY 24 runs, always doubles, one file;
  • JLY24_3: 10:45 July 24 - 16:00 July 26(Mon) (R 405 found trig 00?; R403, planetarium doubles; Hall triples);
  • JLY27: 18:00 July 27 - 12:00 July 28(Wed) (triples; R405 lost);
  • JLY28: 17:30 July 28 - 15:55 July 29(Thurs) (triples). first Planetarium efficiencies (requiring all 4) taken before this run, with stack (from bottom): 10B,7C,8A,LB;
  • JLY29: 20:00 July 29 - 11:25 July 31(Sat) (triples);
  • JLY31: 20:00 more effic. run in Planetarium (files called JLY30, but actually taken JLY 31). One set at 1900 V, old threshold settings (all about -30mv effectively, reading -.3 on board), and one set at 1830 V, with input 4 board reading set to about -.15 (and effective threshold about 11 times less).
  • Aug01: 01:30 Aug 1 - 9:40 Aug 2 (Monday) R405 not reliable in this run.
  • On Aug. 2, Rich Niemann came and took some counters from the Hall and Planetarium setups. The setups were reconstituted, removing the planetarium setup, but consolidating counters in the hall. Rich takes: 7B,7C,10C. Hall setup now has: 8A by computer, 10B down next hall, L1 back toward us.

  • Aug02: 16:00 Aug02 - 10:00 Aug03 (Tue.) R405 not available in this run: GPS data not reliable, triggering bits mis-set (GPS probably reset with data present, later learned this is poor practice). R403 overwritten.
  • Aug 3 afternoon find bad HV cable on R403 setup, counter in hallway: looks like cleaning people pulled the cable.
  • Aug03_3: to 10:00 am Aug06
  • Aug. 6, move L5 from anteroom into R405. start again. remove about 25 ns.
  • Aug06_3: Aug 6 2pm to noon Aug07
  • Aug07_3: Aug 7 5pm to 7:00 am Aug09
  • Aug09_3: Aug 9 9:00 am to Aug 11 9:00 am

    Aug. 11, Allen Daniels takes R403 setup to Crossroads School, where he will set it up again. Efficiency runs done before moving it, at 1650V (inadvertently, thought set at 1850V, but dragged down with addition of LB), 1830V, and 1900 V.
