Almost every track makes for beautiful airplay: a Celtic flavor graces "Young Mary" (track 4), cast in the mold of the tragic ballad of traditional song; eastern sounds of the Turkish saz on "Go Away You'll Wake My Mother" (track 9); country flavor permeates "I've Been Waiting" (track 2) and "Songs of Home" (track 6); and a gypsy medieval tin whistle embellishes "Get It Thru My Head" (track 10). Other tracks, notably "Black River" (track 14) and "McKenzie Bridge" (track 12), as catchy as any pop tune, make this esoteric mix accessible to a wide range of tastes.
Mixture of Honey & Wine introduces the sounds of bouzouki and Turkish saz to the acoustic guitar sensibilities of a midwestern musician whose natural influences include bluegrass, country and rock'n'roll. Bob Heyer worked as a teen-age back-up musician for 1950s rockabilly star Gene Vincent and became a premiere folk musician in the midwest. During his years in Los Angeles, Heyer pioneered the idea of "living room rock", or folk-rock with an urban contemporary edge. When he returned to his roots in the Ozarks, Heyer earned an enormous reputation with various rock bands and playing coffeehouses regionally. Mixture of Honey & Wine marks the first time his music has been available on CD. Heyer composed every song on the album.
See why the appeal of Bob Heyer's Mixture of Honey & Wine crosses generations and discover this unique combination of rock, songwriting introspection and the most loved acoustical traditions.
