Phi Sigma Tau MO Xi chapter @ UMSL

International Honor Society in Philosophy

Welcome to the UMSL chapter of Phi Sigma Tau (ΦΣΤ) founded in 2014.

 

PURPOSE: To serve as a means of awarding distinction to students having high scholarship and personal interest in philosophy; to promote student interest in research and advanced study in this field; to provide opportunities for the publication of student research papers of merit; to encourage a professional spirit and friendship among those who have displayed marked ability in this field; to popularize interest in philosophy among the general collegiate public.

The Xi chapter of PST at UMSL holds a biannual Study Jam, once in spring and fall semesters, to assist undergraduates with preparing for finals in various philosophy classes.  The Study Jam is a two-day event hosted in the philosophy department and consists of PST members, graduate students, and faculty.


Criteria for Membership

In order to become a member of PHI SIGMA TAU, students must:

  1. have completed at least 3 university level courses in philosophy,
  2. have maintained at least a 3.25 grade point average in philosophy courses, and
  3. be in the top 35% of their class.
