Central Park
Linoleum print
The "Central Park" lino print is from my current work "The Lamp Post" series. A simple aesthetic decision to place a street light in my Amsterdam print made me think of this universally known, but sometimes overlooked object. I began to take notice of these ubiquitous fixtures in my collection of photographs. The unique designs seemed to reflect the personality of each particular city, from the utilitarian to the most elaborate. Blending travel and printmaking offers me an opportunity to share two of my passions. Through the appreciation of art by others we can sometimes live beyond our own lives. This extension of life, for me, can be found in those artists who have influenced my work: the feeling of Klimt, the fine detail of Durer, the color of Matisse and others. Making aesthetic decisions and using critical thinking skills are like putting a puzzle together except that one is creating the pieces as the problem is being solved.
