Collage
A painter and printmaker by training, I have been making collages since the late 1970's. In 1994 I began working in a postcard-size format using "found" visual data--images, colors, textures and text--from various sources including catalogues, advertising brochures, and my personal collection of snapshots and memorabilia. In the collage-making process I remove bits of visual information from their original contexts and recombine them to create tiny, enigmatic scenes. Images of windows, doorways and mirrors juxtaposed with visual references to time, journeys, history, art and the everyday invite multiple interpretations. The small format relates to familiar book and postcard reproductions through which we often become acquainted with art masterpieces.
