Dear
loved ones,
Dan’s news is frustrating at best.
On
Wednesday Dan had his latest MRI.
This was supposed to be the MRI that said, “OK, the
infection is all clear and you can start chemo now…”
Instead it was an MRI that said, “Look at me, look
at me…” …
There was a ring enhancing mass, twice the size of the mass
6 weeks ago, that is presumed to be recurrent abscess.
The ID docs are also concerned that the mesh, or
possibly the surrounding overlying bone is infected, and
contributing to recurrence, or preventing healing from the
abscess. Their
recommendation is to surgically drain the abscess and
explore the mesh and bone.
In addition, there is a new lesion that also
enhances, that could be either additional infection or
recurrent tumor.
Friday,
Dan got a new PICC line and started 2 new antibiotics.
We sent
the films to Boston to see if Dr. Black agrees with the
local assessment.
Dan
feels drained by the turn of events, and by the new
medications.
Aside
from all that, my 40th birthday was yesterday.
Forty is a good time to look back and assess.
Last week I went for a walk in the glen, and came to
the conclusion that although my life is not what I thought
it would be when I was 20 and looking forward, it is very
close, and very good. And
yesterday, after making surgery rounds at the hospital in
the morning, I spent the day with Dan and the kids.
We opened presents, ate incredible chocolate cake,
watched Zachary play soccer and went to an Antioch College
Dance Concert. Given
the life that I (we) have, I (we) have an incredible life.
So much of that is because of the love and support
from you, our loving family, friends and spiritual
companions. Thank
you for my wonderful birthday.
And thank you for the love you bring into our lives.
I can’t imagine life without it.
We will
let you know more as we know more.
My guess is, the Charles is beautiful in the spring…
we’ll let you know…
With
love, blessings, hope and appreciation,
Abi and
Dan
