It is the end of the day on Friday. Since Dan's
surgery, he has been seizure free, and begins to regain strength
in his left side. He got out of ICU yesterday. He is eating well,
exercising well, but feeling blue.
News from Infectious Diseases: Bacterial growth is Staph aureus
(nafcillin sensitive), not strep (lab error in first staining).
Current Treatment plan is rifampin for 10 days and nafcillin for
6 or more weeks via a peripherally inserted central catheter line
(PICC line). Dan got his PICC line today, which was a blessing
because the nafcillin infusion is very painful (burning).
ID also says that the titanium plate in Dan's head is a challenge
to overcome the infection and will require a longer course of
antibiotics. He will see in an ID doc in Ohio to determine the
remainder of the course.
News from PT/OT: Dan is stable to go home (as opposed to inpatient
rehab) with home health rehab followed by outpatient rehab.
News from Neurosurgery: No real news, healing fine.
From Dan: "I am just totally drained of energy today. They
keep switching antibiotics, and I can't tell what effect the antibiotic
has on me, but the current one is making me sick to my stomach."
Enough for now.
With Love and weariness,
Abi and Dan
