Dan was operated on for a brain tumor this morning at the Arthur James
Cancer Center of Ohio State University in Columbus. The procedure was a success and Dan is
recovering in the surgical ICU.The abbreviated pathology exam (frozen section) done during
the procedure tentatively identified the mass as a slow-growing glioma, possibly an
oligodendrocytoma. This type of tumor carries a positive prognosis. The final path report, along with the plan for any follow-up treatment, will be available in a couple of days. The surgeon reported that he removed all of the tumor tissue that he was able to identify, and that to the best of his knowledge, he did not disturb the motor cortex. Dan's post-op state is very good. He can voluntarily move all arms, legs, fingers, and toes, look around and undertand what's going on, and respond to questions, etc. Most of his lines and tubes are out. He is still quite groggy and hard to understand. Our deepest and most heartfelt thanks to all of you, our friends and family, for your good wishes, your concerns, and your prayers.
