The Office of Student Involvement believes leadership is a critical part of a student's experience in college as well as an important tool to bring to both an individual's personal life and career. We are proud to offer numerous leadership opportunities to all of our students.
As a result of participating in Leadership Education program, students:
- Will be able to articulate their leadership philosophy
- Illustrate at least two strategies they can use to empower others
- Will demonstrate effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills
- Engage in inclusive behaviors through their leadership roles and organizations

Emerging Leaders (Spring): Emerging Leaders is a unique opportunity for first-year UMSL undergraduate students (freshmen or first-year sophomores) to get on the fast-track to student leadership, campus, and community involvement.
Advanced Leaders (Fall): Advanced Leaders is a 11-week program designed to enhance the skills of student leaders beyond the introductory level leadership topics. Membership is limited to UMSL students of junior and senior status. Sophomore students who have completed the Emerging Leaders Program are also invited to apply.
Chancellor's Engaged Leadership Certificate: This is a self-paced, comprehensive, leadership development program designed to encourage and recognize student leadership, education, and experiences at UMSL. Once enrolled, it is encouraged that students dedicate at least four semester to completing the certificate.
National Society of Leadership and Success: The Society provides a step-by-step program for members to build their leadership skills through participation in the UMSL chapter. Students are selected and invited to join the Society based on credit hours and academic standing.
Women's Leadership Institute (Spring/Fall): FREE one-day leadership conference designed to enhance the leadership ability, increase awareness of personal abilities, and assist women in developing learning strategies to help them create positive sustainable change in their communities.
Leadership Discovery Summit (Fall): FREE one-day leadership conference open to all UMSL students. The focus is to engage and educate participants in the area of leadership.
Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities: Annually UMSL participates in the selection of outstanding campus leaders for this honor. This process is coordinated through the Office of Student Involvement in collaboration with all academic units on campus.
Student Leadership Awards: The Leadership Awards provides the opportunity to honor the exemplary efforts of the people and organizations that make up Student Involvement at UMSL.
Open Leadership Workshops: Join us for a select number of Emerging Leader workshops that are open to the entire UMSL community. Presenters include UMSL and outside speakers on a variety of topics.
Leadership to Go: Looking to develop your leadership skills on your own time? Check out our online leadership modules! Packaged and design to provide students valuable, yet concise information which they can use immediately. Topics encompass the wide range of skills and information needed to be a successful leader.
Leadership On Demand: Does your student organization need some leadership training? Request to have a Student Involvement staff member facilitate a workshop through Leadership-On-Demand!
