Emerging Leaders is a unique opportunity for first-year UMSL undergraduate students (freshmen or first-year sophomores) to get on the fast-track to student leadership, campus, and community involvement. Students participating in the Emerging Leaders Program will receive an insider's perspective on Student Involvement at UMSL. Throughout the program, students will have an opportunity to develop their leadership abilities through workshops, activities, and reflection in order to prepare them for future leadership experience at UMSL and beyond.
Benefits of the Emerging Leaders program include:
- Involvement in campus life
- Development of personal and professional skills
- Opportunities to network
- Foundations of leadership to excel at UMSL and beyond
- Graduates of the program are recognized at the end of the year Student Leadership Awards
Time Commitment:
- Attendance at one fall meeting
- Attendance at an overnight retreat (April 10-April 11)
- Participation at all required sessions and a number of optional workshops, approximately 2-2.5 hours each week
- Earn 150 points to graduate from the program
Mentorship:
Each participant is paired with an Emerging Leader peer facilitator who serves as a mentor, as well as plan outside social activities for participants and assists with facilitating weekly sessions.
