Katie O’Daniels

GWP Co-Director

“I started my career teaching fourth grade. After earning my M.A.T. in Reading, I worked as a reading specialist at a community college. I am currently at University of Missouri-St. Louis, where I am (hopefully) finishing up my doctorate degree, co-directing the Gateway Writing Project, and getting my feet wet as a teacher educator. I have long believed in the importance of teacher professionalism, and GWP has connected me with other like-minded educators. The fabulous people who are a part of this network not only sustain me professionally, they have also helped me embrace my identity as a writer. GWP is my professional home.”

Sioux Roslawski

Assistant Director - Teachers as Writers
Gateway changed my life--forever... And I continue to evolve and flourish because of the GWP. I thought I knew about myself as a writer and about writing instruction, but when I took the Summer Institute back in 2000, the writing world--as I knew it--exploded (in a good way).”

Cathy Griner

Assistant Director -Youth Programs
"GWP invited me to return to my own writing and to participate in excellent professional development.  The interaction with its community of dedicated teachers gave me choices in my teaching.  As my teaching strengthened, so did my passion for encouraging my students to become better thinkers, readers, and writers.  And I still write for myself , thanks to GWP's invitation!"

Angie has been working with the Gateway Writing Project since she attended the Summer Institute in 2000.  “The Summer Institute transformed my teaching, and my understanding of writing and instruction continues to grow with each new GWP endeavor.  The power of this organization to impact education comes primarily from the passion and instructional brilliance of the teachers who continue to be involved with GWP.  Teachers who read together and write together can change the world together.”
