STLCC South County
Bachelor of Liberal Studies
The UMSL Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BSL) program at STLCC South County Education and University Center is intended for students who seek the flexibility to tailor coursework to their interests while completing their college degree. Instead of declaring a traditional academic major, students must declare multiple areas of study including either two minors or a minor with an undergraduate certificate. An academic plan of study must be approved at the beginning of the program when a student declares the BLS as their intended degree.
The BLS requires a minimum of 120 credit hours, including 28-42 hours of electives and a minimum of 45 credit hours in upper level courses. Most of these requirements can be transferred from accredited institutions. Work done in community colleges or other accredited universities can be applied toward the degree, as can applicable courses taken at the UMSL, whether on or off campus. The BLS may serve as a terminal degree or as preparation for graduate school, professional school, or employment in business, government or industry.
