The Office of New Student Programs recognizes the academic success during your first year.

Below are two academic honorary societies specifically for UMSL new first-time college and transfer students.

First-Year College Students Honor Society

Alpha Lambda Delta was founded in 1924 to recognize the high academic achievement of first-year college students and is present on over 280 campuses across the U.S.

Requirements for this organization include:

  • To have earned a 3.5 GPA or higher first term.
  • Be a current full-time student.
  • Pay the one-time membership fee of $35 to cover cost of your induction items, scholarships, and programming for the organization.

Alpha Lambda Delta was chartered at UMSL in Spring 2018.

If you are interested and meet the above requirements, please look for an invitational email to join the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society in the Spring semester of your first year.

Transfer Students Honor Society

Tau Sigma is an honor society for university transfer students. Tau Sigma was established in 1999 at Auburn University. Part of the impetus for the creation of the organization was to provide a social support network to transfer students.

Requirements for this organization include:

  • To have earned a 3.5 GPA or higher first term.
  • Be a current full-time student.
  • Be a transfer student that transferred to a four year institution from another institution with at least one full years' academic credits satisfied at the prior institution.
