ABSTRACT: The E.J. Carpenter Steamboat Photographs Collection consists of nine photographs of Ohio and Mississippi River scenes, most containing some aspect of steamboating.

SCOPE: Nine photographs mounted on black cards and measuring approximately 8 x 10 inches. Photographs cover scenes on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, steamboats, an ice gorge and dam and Cincinnati scenes.

ACCESS: This is collection P-038. This collection is available for on-site use only in the Rare Book and Manuscripts Reading Room. Some of the collection may be photocopied, digitally scanned or photographed, depending on condition. Researchers are advised to call ahead concerning changes in hours due to University intersessions and holidays. E. J. Carpenter was an amateur landscape photographer, active in Cincinnati (Hamilton) in the early 1880s. According to the Enquirer, he made a specialty of Ohio River scenes. Cincinnati Enquirer, July 23, 1883.
