SCOPE: This collection consists of one typewritten copy of The American Western Rivers Steamboat Cyclopedium, a very early version of Bates' published work, The Western Rivers Steamboat Cyclopedium, published by Hustle Press in 1968. The manuscript contains substantial variations from the finished work, including pen edits and a different layout. The manuscript also contains many pen and ink drawings of steamboats and steamboat construction, which would later appear in the finished work.

ACCESS: This is collection P-050. This collection is available for on-site use only in the Rare Book and Manuscripts Reading Room. Some of the collection may be photocopied, digitally scanned or photographed, depending on condition.
