Eight Students Present Research at Data Science ConferenceEight students in UMSL’s Department of Mathematics and Computer Science presented their research at the 2019 Midwest BioInformatics Conference in Kansas City. Graduate students Sri Harsha Akurathi and Kenneth Smith, along with undergraduates Justin Henn, Joseph Hill, Zachary Jorn, Alberto Maiocco, Paul Ries, and Nick Wooldridge, attracted a steady flow of researchers interested in their projects. UMSL Math Undergraduate, Gabriel Brenner Spends Semester in “Math in Moscow"“Math in Moscow” is a prestigious program of the Independent University of Moscow, The Higher School of Economics, and Moscow Center for Continuous Mathematical Education inviting foreign math undergraduates to spend a semester in Moscow. The program boasts high level research-oriented courses in the Russian mathematical tradition with small class sizes that allow students to work closely with passionate, distinguished professors. Every semester, a small cohort of students is selected out of a large, competitive applicant pool. With gracious support from the UMSL math department, math undergraduate Gabriel Brenner attended the Spring semester program graduating with distinction. Some of the other home institutions represented include Carnegie Mellon University, ETH Zürich and Harvey Mudd College. |
