In an effort to support you during this time of transition while we confront the COVID-19 health crisis, UMSL Counseling Services (CS) is in the process of establishing a secure platform to provide distance online mental health support. This shift comes in response to national and local guidelines which emphasize social distancing while still allowing for practitioners to provide support to those who seek mental healthcare from our agency. We are striving to take into consideration the need to ensure the health and wellbeing of both staff and clients to the extent that we are able to do so in the midst of this unprecedented public health crisis. At this time, we are in the process of transitioning toward providing teletherapy services via our online distance telemental health platform.

If you are a current client with an existing appointment, your CS provider will contact you to discuss next steps for continued care. If you are interested in continuing to meet with your clinician via an online telemental health appointment, you will need a high-speed internet connection, a computer or laptop, speakers or headphones and a camera for videoconferencing. You will also need access to a private location in which you feel safe and are unlikely to be interrupted or disturbed during your visit. All telemental health appointments will take place via Zoom. You will receive a secure message via the UMSL Student Health Portal inviting you to access a meeting with your clinician at the designated appointment time. Your clinician will review additional information pertinent to the receipt of online distance telemental health care. If you do not have the necessary technology, please contact your therapist by phone to identify options and possible alternative sources of support.

If you are not a current client, you can request to schedule an initial consultation by calling UMSL CS during business hours or by requesting an initial appointment via the UMSL Student Health Portal. A member of the UMSL CS staff will follow-up with you to discuss your request.

We continue to be available for crisis appointments and emergency support. If you need immediate assistance or consultation, call CS at 314-516-5711 and request to speak to the emergency counselor. In the case of an after-hours emergency, please call Life Crisis Services at (314) 647-4357, Behavioral Health Response at (314) 469-6644, 911, or go to a hospital emergency department.

We appreciate your patience as we work to complete our transition to offering online distance telemental health. Although you may experience some delay in response for general inquiries, we will work to follow-up with you as quickly as possible. Please note that UMSL CS business hours have changed to Monday-Friday, 9:00 am-4:00 pm. These hours are effective immediately, as of Monday, March 23, 2020.
