Hey, I’m John Perez and I love being an advisor at UMSL. My connection with the University started quite a while ago. After a few education hiccups, (maybe like you, I struggled until I found my way), I completed my undergrad work at UMSL in 1997 (B.A. in English; Writing Certificate). I always appreciated going to UMSL, being a student, and was fortunate enough to begin working here in 2005. I started in administration in the Pierre Laclede Honors College doing various admin duties and some advising. It is there I discovered that I wanted to advise and help students navigate through their careers at UMSL. I was thrilled to join the advising team at the College of Arts and Sciences in 2009 and am happy to be continuing my own education by taking courses in many different disciplines. A dean once said you have to be a little crazy to do this job so I guess I’m a bit crazy because I really love working with students, helping them realize their educational goals, and I am truly a believer in the many ways the University of Missouri - St. Louis transforms lives.
