Associate Dean Beth Eckelkamp joined the administration of the College of Arts and Sciences at UMSL in May of 2012. She served as the Director of Language Programs in the Department of Anthropology, Sociology and Languages from August of 2009 through August of 2012. She continues to hold an appointment as a Teaching Professor of Japanese and has been a Japanese faculty member at UMSL for nearly 20 years after earning an MA in East Asian Studies from Washington University in 1991.
Representing the College in planning new student initiatives such as Orientation and the First Year Experience course is central to her position as Associate Dean and is a role that Beth is very passionate about. Working with advisors and students in the College of Arts and Sciences Advising office is also very rewarding and Beth enjoys being part of a team that is dedicated to supporting students as they make academic progress toward graduation. She is also involved in college, campus and system wide retention initiatives and is privileged to work with colleagues to fulfill the mission and strategic goals of both the UMSL campus and the UM system.
