Associate Teaching Professor of English for Academic Purposes

 

Interests: (TESL) Teaching English as a Second Language to Speakers of Other Languages. Writing (composition and rhetoric), grammar and editing, conversation, pronunciation, oral presentation skills, listening and note-taking

Education: Nancy Mayer received her MAT in English at Webster University in St. Louis in 1990.  She received her graduate TESL Certification from Southeast Missouri State University in 1994.  Her undergraduate degrees are Journalism (B.J.) and French (A.B.) from the University of Missouri-Columbia (1978).  Nancy Mayer joined the English as a Second Language program at the University of Missouri- St. Louis in 1999.  

Teaching: Nancy Mayer participates in the welcoming and assessment of undergraduate and graduate international students. She teaches ESL 3202 Intermediate Reading and Writing, ESL 3205 Intermediate Grammar, ESL 4301 Conversation and Pronunciation, ESL 4302 Advanced Listening and Note-taking, ESL 4305 Advanced Grammar, ESL 4303 Advanced Reading and Writing, and the Summer English Language Institute.  She has also taught the International Teaching Assistant (ITA) Seminar and ENG 1110 Freshman Composition for International Students. 

Nancy Mayer has taught English to international students, immigrants, and Missouri resident non-native speakers of English in the St. Louis community since 1983. She has taught at the International Institute of St. Louis, St. Louis University, St. Louis Community Colleges at Forest Park, and Washington University in St. Louis. 

Professional: Nancy Mayer is a member of the Mid-TESOL and TESOL organizations.  She has published articles in Mid-TESOL Matters publication.
