Assistant Teaching Professor of Modern Languages
Education: MA in English Studies, École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (France); MA in French (ABD), Washington University in Saint Louis.
Manon was born and raised in Chartres, France. She holds a Master’s degree in English studies from École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, from whence she first came to the U.S. as an exchange student at Washington University in St. Louis. Manon also received a Master’s degree in French from WashU’s Romance Languages Department, where she completed advanced coursework for the doctoral program in French.
Manon teaches classes in English on topics related to language, as well as French classes ranging from beginner to advanced. She uses proficiency-based, communicative, and student-centered approaches to language instruction. She particularly enjoys exploring the ways in which language(s) and culture inform each other and shape the lives of students from a variety of backgrounds and through a variety of textual, visual and social media. While she has a general background in French literature, Manon’s current professional interests include second language acquisition and pedagogy, proficiency-based language instruction, teaching translation, language awareness, and creating inclusive classrooms, both online and in-person.
When she is not teaching, Manon spends her time exploring the city, tending to her plants, and discovering new (to her) cuisines from around the world. Her cat Luc is a frequent feature in her online classes.
Manon is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Teachers of French and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. She is currently serving as the secretary for the Greater St. Louis Chapter of the AATF.
