Education:  M.A. in Spanish from Bowling Green University
Research: Tim Abeln earned his B.A. in Spanish and Education at Webster University in St. Louis.  During his time at Webster University he spent a semester and a summer session studying abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico.  After completing his B.A. he moved to Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH in order to complete his M.A. in Spanish and work as a Teaching Assistant.  As part of his M.A. he returned to Guadalajara for two semesters of study at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara. His M.A., which he earned in May 2008, is a generalist degree but he focused his research on Mexican Literature and Mexican identity.
After studying at Bowling Green State University Tim taught at Muskingum University, Ohio University and Marietta College before coming to UMSL. He has enjoyed being a faculty director of several study abroad programs including Toledo, Spain (Ohio University) and two short-term programs in The Dominican Republic and Costa Rica here at UMSL.  His teaching interests are all levels of language and culture courses as well as Latin American and Mexican literature and culture.
Tim Abeln is from St. Louis, MO.  He currently lives here with his wife Fabiola and two daughters Camila and Maya and travels often to Guadalajara, his wife’s hometown.
