Message from the Office of the Chancellor

August 30, 2021 - Highlighting the heroic efforts of our staff and faculty

Dear Colleagues,

As I shared in my welcome message last Monday, our UMSL community is a family of deeply driven, compassionate and talented individuals, each committed to bolstering positive change. It is your hard work, dedication and resilience that has led us through the pandemic and allowed us to return to a new normal this academic year and to continue our mission to transform lives.

That said, I know that all too often the contributions of our staff and faculty to fulfill our mission can go unseen by the university at large. That’s why I was pleased to announce a new recognition last December – the UMSL Hero Award – to highlight the unseen heroic efforts of our university’s staff and faculty. You can read about our latest August awardees in UMSL Daily.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed reading about our heroes in UMSL Daily as much as I have enjoyed reading their nominations and, of course, sharing the news with awardees each month. And I hope that you will help us continue this new tradition by nominating an UMSL Hero.

The Chancellor’s Cabinet reviews nominations each month on an ongoing basis and selects up to three staff or faculty members to highlight their efforts to transform the lives of UMSL students and those in the broader communities that we serve. Recipients receive a distinctive UMSL Hero lapel pin and public recognition through UMSL Daily and other university communication channels or events.

My sincere hope is that this award brings meaningful recognition to – and shines a light on – the amazing work of our fellow colleagues. Let’s celebrate and lift each other up during this time of change as we continue to be a beacon of hope for our community.

Gratefully forward,

Kristin Sobolik
