Gary, is Chief Financial Officer for DOORWAYS, an interfaith nonprofit organization that provides housing and related supportive services to improve quality of life and health outcomes for people affected by HIV/AIDS. He directs overall financial planning and reporting for DOORWAYS’ six corporate entities, including accounting policies and practices and information technology, and participates in the formulation and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan and revenue development.
Mudd has more than 30 years of nonprofit experience. As a certified public accountant with ten years of public accounting experience, he worked with numerous nonprofit clients. As a manager at Deloitte he led teams auditing leading St. Louis companies including Monsanto and Maritz, as well as numerous private independent schools. At Kerber, Eck & Braeckel he conducted detailed examinations of ZMD Subdistricts’ financial and operating controls. In his 11 years at Whitfield School, he initially served as the business manager. He then became the school’s development director and led a capital campaign that raised in excess of $18 million to complete the campus. The St. Louis Business Journal recognized him for his professional achievements in 2003 as a “40 under 40” recipient. Mudd’s experience also includes roles at RISE, the St. Louis community development intermediary, and as a key member of a special projects team that launched a new corporate brand for H&R Block.
Mudd graduated Beta Gamma Sigma from the University of Missouri - St. Louis with a MBA and holds a Bachelor of Science - Accountancy from the University of Missouri - Columbia.
He currently serves as board co-chair for PROMO, Missouri's statewide LGBT advocacy organization. As that organization’s board treasurer he was instrumental in leading its merger with Sage St. Louis in 2015. He previously served on the boards of St. Louis Effort for AIDS, Art St. Louis, and Shaw Neighborhood Improvement Association, as well as advisory committees throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area.
