This
is a very small portion of the surface of his workshop desk, but
a representative sample. Every square foot was evenly covered
with a wonderful collection of items.
Technical
things: This photograph used an extreme bellows extension with
the camera almost, but not quite vertical over the desk. The Toyo
Field 4" x 5" field camera isn't really set up for this kind of
shot since it has much more limited swings & tilts compared
to a studio 4x5, but it does have an impressive bellows extension.
The amount of tilt was enough to offset the camera so that it
wasn't shooting straight down. This helped in setting up the lights,
since with the camera vertical over the desk, the camera blocked
a good portion of the light.
