Directions for Getting to the Skinker-DeBaliviere Community Council  from UM-St. Louis

If coming by car from the North campus of UM-St. Louis:

Map showing an UMSL to Skinker-DeBaliviere Community Council route

On this map, UMSL is represented by the "S" with a black box around it, and the Skinker-DeBaliviere Community Council is represented by the "E" with a black box around it.

I do not recommend going through city streets, as this map directs you—too complicated.

Instead:

1. From UMSL, go west down Natural Bridge Road until you hit Interstate 170.

2. Get in the left hand lane to enter I-170.

3. Take I-170 South until you hit Forest Park Parkway. Take that exit.

4. Stay on Forest Park Parkway for a few miles. You will go through several lights, including the light at Skinker Boulevard. Go 3/10 of a mile beyond the Skinker intersection and you will hit a light at the intersection of Forest Park Parkway and Des Peres Avenue, where you will take a left.

5. Stay on Des Peres Avenue. Ater 2/10 of a mile, you will come to the intersection of Des Peres and Kingsbury Avenue, and the Skinker-DeBaliviere Community Council will be on the southwest corner, the building next to the plaza. Its address is 6008 Kingsbury Avenue. When parking, make sure to notice signs indicating where you are allowed to park.

6. Feel free to walk right in. Laure Porterfield is the Executive Director. If she is there, feel free to introduce yourself.

If coming by MetroLink from the North or South campus of UM-St. Louis:

1. Catch MetroLink at either of the two campus locations. You will be heading east, toward the city of St. Louis. The locations are clearly marked on the map at the back of the Fall 2000 Course Schedule. Be sure to have your UMSL student ID with the MetroLink decal affixed, in order to get your free ride.

2. Get off at the Delmar station, which will let you out on the north side of Delmar Avenue.

3. Cross Delmar Avenue, and you will see the blocked off end of Des Peres Avenue. There is a light where Des Peres intersects Delmar.

4. Simply walk across this blocked off end (it is blocked off only for vehicular traffic) and onto Des Peres Avenue. You are now in the Skinker-DeBaliviere neighborhood.

5. Walk about two or three blocks down Des Peres Avenue, and you will come to Kingsbury Avenue. Skinker-DeBaliviere Community Council will be on the southwest corner, the building next to the plaza. Its address is 6008 Kingsbury Avenue.

6. Feel free to walk right in. Laure Porterfield is the Executive Director. If she is there, feel free to introduce yourself.
