Assignment 1: To be done by 2nd class meeting (Tuesday August 28)

• Sit down and determine what you think your current neighborhood or community is.
• Write down and organize in terms of importance or relative significance the criteria you have considered in determining what your neighborhood or community is.
• Walk around the area, noting the architecture, the activity or lack of activity of people, the landmarks, the condition of the infrastructure, the fauna and flora, traffic patterns, whatever you consider important about defining an area.
• Write down your notes as you walk around. Summarize and expand your notes once you return home.
• Come to class to discuss your observations. Bring your written-out notes.

Assignment 2: To be done by 3rd class meeting (Thursday August 30)

• Use your map to find Skinker-DeBaliviere neighborhood.
• Physically go there, whether by foot, MetroLink, bus, bicycle, car, or whatever other mode of travel.
• However you get there, walk around the area, noting the architecture, the activity or lack of activity of people, the landmarks, the condition of the infrastructure, the fauna and flora, traffic patterns, whatever you consider important about defining an area. Besides walking, you can also drive around the area, which might give you a broader view of the area.
• Write down your notes as you walk around. Summarize and expand your notes once you return home.
• Come to class to discuss your observations. Bring your written-out notes.
