The documents in this collection are printouts of photocopies found on two cd-roms. The original documents are in possession of Rev. Thomas Henseler of Mt. Sterling, IL. They were donated to the Western Historical Manuscript Collection by James H. Stebbings, Sc.D.
Captain John E. Henseler was born in Opladen, Germany on February 2, 1820. He was a carpenter and served as an engineer in the Prussian Army prior to immigrating to the United States in 1854. He became a naturalized citizen in April 1860. Capt. Henseler enlisted in the 35th Mo. Vol. Inf. in 1861, at the age of 41. He performed engineering tasks such as overseeing the construction of fortifications until his discharge in 1863. He lived for many years in Peoria, IL, and served for a period as an Internal Revenue Service Storekeeper.FOLDER LIST
