George H. Hall enjoyed a long career in the newspaper business, which included community reporting in rural Missouri, investigating communism in the Far East, and preparing the editorial page for publication. In 1974 George H. Hall retired from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He originally joined the Post staff in 1942 and was quickly reassigned to the Washington bureau. Hall returned to St. Louis in 1959 to work as assistant editor of the editorial page. He later became the editor of that page upon the retirement of Robert Lasch in 1971.
Hall graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, where he worked as managing editor of the college's humor magazine. He earned a degree from Columbia University School of Journalism in 1933. Hall's first permanent newspaper job was with the Leader-Press of Springfield, Missouri. Before joining the Post-Dispatch, Hall worked for newspapers in several cities as well as KMOX radio station in St. Louis.
As a member of the Post-Dispatch Washington bureau, Hall covered the Missouri congressional delegation and the entire range of foreign aid for developing countries. In 1954, he took a four-month trip to the Far East, visiting Japan, the Philippines, Formosa (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, and Egypt to assess the possibility of these nations coming under communist domination.
