This collection includes two series: 1. The Levin columns correspondce; and 2. Joe Garvin correspondence.

Series 1, folders 1-10, includes correspondence to Harry Levin, writer for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. These letters reflect personal accounts of civilian or military personnel during the bombing of Pearl Harbor or the D-Day invasion. The letters provided Mr. Levin with material from which he could write articles commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of these events. Thus the correspondence was written in 1991 and 1994. The series also includes newspaper clippings regarding Levin's article. The collection includes one cassette of personal recollections of person during the campaign at Iwo Jima in 1945.

Series 2, folders 11 and 12, includes correspondence written by Joe Garvin to his family. The letters range from 7 January 1943 to 26 September 1943.
