Western
Historical Manuscripts Collection acquired McDonnell Project Gemini memorabilia
through a museum studies graduate project (conducted by Craig Hadley) that ran
from September 2007 to May 2008. The aim
of the project focused on capturing video history interviews with retired
McDonnell Aircraft employees that worked on Project Gemini in the early
1960s. Interviews focused on documenting
retiree job tasks, the work environment, and relations with astronauts and
upper management. As a result of
networking through the retiree group “MAC’s Old Team”, many loaned and/or
donated materials to the archive. The
end products included a physical gallery installation (installed April 2008)
along with a website.
