The African-American Healing Arts and Lore project focused on the topic of folk medicine and healing practices among elder African-Americans in the St. Louis Community. Using oral history methods, project participants invoked narratives about healing and used them in public discussion as a bridge to intergenerational and cross-cultural understanding. The Healing Arts and Lore project was one the Eldertel/Staes programs for the 2006 fall season. The Eldertel programs were sponsored by Grace Hill Neighborhood Services, Missouri African-American Cultural Initiative, Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Mid-America Arts Alliance (MAAA), Missouri Performing Traditions, and St. Louis Schools. The Eldertel program is part of the larger Eldermove program co-sponsored by the Missouri Humanities Council, the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis, and the St. Louis Public Library.
