The Addenda to the George McCue papers were donated by his daughter, Mary Patricia Holmes in November 2005

Mr. McCue was art and urban design critic of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch from 1956 until retirement in 1975, and after 1965 also was editor of the newspaper's Sunday Arts Page. He is an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects. He was graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 1933, and spent three years on the Linn County Budget-Gazette, a tri-weekly, at Brookfield, Missouri. He was next employed in the Jefferson City bureau of the Associated Press, and in 1937 joined the news staff of the Springfield (Mo.) Leader and Press. Election correspondence for the St. Louis Star-Times led to a job on that newspaper in 1942, and in 1943 he moved to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as reporter and then writer and assistant editor of the old Sunday PICTURES photojournalism magazine. Mr. McCue was the author of three editions of a guide to St. Louis architecture, and other books on architecture and sculpture, as well as catalog essays and articles in professional journals. He served as juror in numerous art and architecture competitions, and received a special award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation for writings in the campaign to save the Old Post Office. He was active in the campaign to keep drawings by George Caleb Bingham in Missouri when it had been proposed to sell and break up the Mercantile Library collection. He was a speaker at national and regional conventions, and at universities in various parts of the country.
