Dr. John Wright, a former superintendent of the Kinloch school district, donated a collection of newsclippings and reports to the Western Historical Manuscript Collection-St. Louis on August 24, 2000.
On June 7, 1975, the US District Court ordered that school districts in the St. Louis County municipalities of Berkeley, Ferguson-Florissant and the predominantly African American Kinloch merge into a single district. This followed a government lawsuit in 1971 maintaining that the Kinloch schools perpetuated an all-black district created in 1937. It also followed the 1972 Liddell v. Board of Education of St. Louis court decision on school desegregation. Judge James H. Meredith ordered the merger, which was upheld by the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
