The St. Louis Interfaith Committee on Latin America Records collection was donated by the organization on September11, 2001 with addenda added on July 1, 2003.

Organized in March 1982, the St. Louis Interfaith Committee on Latin America is a non-profit organization that seeks to educate persons in the Greater St. Louis area about the social and economic problems in Latin America. It focuses on education and action opportunities to publicize Latin American issues including monthly newsletters, petition drives, public events and projects, and legislative work. It also works in conjunction with other organizations such as Witness for Peace, Quest for Peace, and Sanctuary.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The St. Louis Interfaith Committee on Latin America Records collection includes financial information, correspondence, meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, newsletters, brochures, flyers, books, campaign information, audiotapes, videotapes, and photographs. Together they chronicle the establishment and activities of the St. Louis Interfaith Committee on Latin America from 1982-1997. The records document its mission to promote public awareness about Latin America. The records also reveal the larger picture of the power of a grass-roots organization.

This collection is divided into six series: (1) Administration, (2) Campaigns, (3) Affiliated Organizations, (4) Publications, (5) Audiotapes and Videotapes, and (6) Photographs.

SERIES DESCRIPTION

SERIES 1 – ADMINISTRATION, FOLDERS 1-51

This series includes correspondence, financial reports, meeting minutes, by-laws, organizational charts, newsletters, and brochures concerning the St. Louis Interfaith Committee on Latin America organization. Arranged alphabetically.

SERIES 2 – CAMPAIGNS, FOLDERS 52-254

This series includes campaigns concerning Latin America that the St. Louis Interfaith Committee on Latin America participated in or sponsored from 1977-1997. Typical campaigns include Human Rights Week, Central America Week, Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero memorial services, conferences, rallies, pickets, and various speakers. Arranged alphabetically by year.

SERIES 3 – AFFILIATED ORGANIZATIONS, FOLDERS 255-261

This series includes information and correspondence of organizations that the St. Louis Interfaith Committee on Latin America worked with including American Baptist Churches, American Lutheran Church, Central America Resource Center, Diocese of Victoria, Pledge of Resistance, and United Methodist Church.
