In 1985 Vice Chancellor Blanche Touhill asked Dr. Jerry Cooper, Professor of Military History at the University of Missouri to preserve the memories of World War II veterans. Dr. Cooper developed a survey of important questions and contacted Harry Levins of the St. Louis Post Dispatch to publicize the project. Mr. Levins wrote a column about the project and the responses started to roll in. Along with the surveys came other material. Books, letters, and other WWII material was donated by the veterans and their families.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The collection contains the administrative records of the project, some items that were donated and the survey forms from 83 veterans.

SERIES DESCRIPTION

Series 1. Administrative Records

This series contains the correspondence, background material and other records that were created during the survey process.

Series 2. Material collected from Veterans and families.

Books, pamphlets, transcripts of WWII correspondence donated during the project.

Series 3. Survey forms

The survey forms. Approximately 90 questions that were returned by 83 veterans. Arranged alphabetically.
