Bennie G. Rodgers donated this photographed collection to the Western Historical
Manuscript Collection on September 5, 1998. Bennie was a great journalist and
is noted and known as the Dean of Journalism; he worked for the St. Louis American
Newspaper for many years. Bennie was dedicated to saving St. Louis' African
American history, and was a mentor to all journalists and ordinary people of
all walks of life. He was a profound advocate for the civil rights movement.
Although, Bennie G. Rodgers is deceased he leaves a huge legacy for others to
follow.

This collection documents St. Louis' African Americans photographs and their history.
