A number of people who served in World War II donated the material in this collection,. They are identified in the series description. Professor Jerry Cooper of the University of Missouri-St. Louis History Department solicited the donations from the participnats in a survey.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The material includes photographs, correspondence, artifacts and manuscripts of World War II veterans. All theaters of war are represented.

SERIES DESCRIPTION

Series 1: Isadore Barge Collection

Isadore Barge donated his collection to the Western Historical Manuscript Collection on April 3, 1992. Isadore Barge was a supply sergeant with the 12th Special Service Unit. He served in New Guinea, The Philippines, Australia and Japan. Collection includes, photographs, military papers and artifacts.

Series 2: Harold T. Brunette Collection

Harold T. Brunette donated the material in his collection on April 15, 1992. Brunette served in North Africa with the 1272 AAF Base Unit. The collection includes photographs, correspondence, pamphlets, and a monthly historical report of the unit.

Series 3: Maurice B. Kranzberg Collection

Maurice B. Kranzberg donated the material on April 27, 1992. Kranzberg served in the South Pacific with the Fourth Marine Division. His collection includes correspondence, military history publication relating to the Marine Corps.

Series 4: 35th Combat Engineers Collection.

Mike Martin and William Fischetti donated the material in this collection. It includes a photograph of the unit, unit histories and reunion material.

Series 5: Helen M. Meyer Manuscript

Helen M. Meyer donated her manuscript on April 13, 1992. Her manuscript titled Orders is orders, it is the story of a nurse serving in France and Germany.

Series 6: Allen Wilmer Collection

Allen Wilmer donated his collection on June 11, 1992. Wilmer served on a Navy LST in the South Pacific. The collection includes manuscripts of poetry and family history.

Series 7: Norma Warrington Oral History

The oral history was conducted in the Spring 1992 by Robert Minks it covers her experiences as a WAC in World War II.

Series 8: Gordon Duniven Collection

Mary Jane Duniven donated the material in the collection on April 18, 1992. Duniven served as an aircraft mechanic in Japan. The collection includes, phonograph record, ration cards, correspondence, photographs, scrapbook, and training camp correspondence from John Devaney who was killed in action with Patton's 3rd Army in North Africa.
