Robert Snyder was born July 25, 1917 in Lima Ohio. He received his law degree from St. Louis University. First elected to the Missouri House of Representatives from the ninth district in 1960. Re-elected from the newly-organized eleventh district in 1962. The 45th district in 1966 and the 95th district in 1972. He served in the Missouri House until 1976. Snyder made an unsuccessful bid for Congress in 1976 from the second district. He was appointed to the Missouri Court of Appeals in November of 1977.

While in the Missouri house he served on the many committees including City planning, judiciary, civil and criminal procedure.


SCOPE AND CONTENT
The collection is mainly correspondence from Robert Snyders Missouri Legislature service. Letters from constituents regarding bills that were coming up before the house or one of the committees that he served on. There is also some personal correspondence and republican party correspondence. The collection also contains some newsletters, reports, photographs and political artifacts.


SERIES DESCRIPTION

Series 1 Correspondence: folders 1-97
This series comprises the majority of the collection. The material is arranged chronologically. Within each year the correspondence is arranged alphabetically by correspondent.

Series 2 Campaign Material: folders 98-126
This series contains material regarding Snyders political campaigns as well as the campaigns of other republican candidates. They are arranged alphabetically and then chronologically.

Series 3 Newsclippings: folders 127-136
This series contains newsclippings on a variety of issues including articles written about Robert Snyder. The series is arranged chronologically.

Series 4 Newsletters: folders 137-147
Newsletters from various organizations including the republican party and the Missouri Legislature. The series is arranged alphabetically and chronologically.

Series 5 Press Releases: folders 148-154
The series contains a large quantity of KMOX-TV editorial and editorial reply transcripts as well as press releases from various organizations and politicians. The material is arranged alphabetically and chronologically.

Series 6 Legislative issues: folders 155-170
This series contains materials relating to Robert Snyder's legislative career. Included are material on various issues which came before the Missouri legislature. Included are reports, statistics, pamphlets and transcripts. The material is arranged alphabetically.

Series 7 Personal: folders 171-172
This series contains two folders, one contains biographical information and one contains information on an award presented to Robert Snyder by the St. Louis Globe Democrat.


Series 8 Impeachment files: folders 173-175
Robert Snyder was involved in impeachment proceedings on several occasions. The material in this series documents these cases.


Series 9 Artifacts and Photographs: folders 176-178
This series contains political buttons and bumper stickers as well as 15 photographs of Robert Snyder.
