Mary A. Breummer of St. Louis University donated the records of the Women's Program Council, 1973-1995, on May 25, 1995.
The Higher Education Center of St. Louis authorized the creation of the Wome'ns Program Council on June 4, 1974 after representatives of HECs women's programs completed a study of resource centers, continuing education, career counseling and affirmative action for women. In addition to promoting an improved environment for woman in higher education, the Women's Program Council provides speakers to area campuses and organizes conferences. It has produced an educational resource book for women returning to school, regularly conducts networking meetings for those interested in women in higher education and holds two meetings each year.
SCOPE AND CONTENT
The Women's Program Council Records, 1973-1995, contains literature, a narrative history of the group and rosters, meeting notices, including information on speakers, and minutes. The history and literature appear in the first two folders and the rest of the collection is arranged chronologically.
An earlier gift of five folders of materials pertaining to the WomeWs Program Council is included in the Higher Education Coordinating Council Records, unprocessed as of May 1995.
