The Illinois Pure Water Committee, Inc., Records was donated by Gladys Caldwell to the Western Historical Manuscript Collection as several different accessions between 1982 and 1984. Ms. Caldwell and the Committee were successful in their campaign to block the fluoridation of the public water supply in Alton, Illinois. This collection documents their legal efforts to block fluoridation, as well as their efforts to education the public about the hazards of fluoridation. The collection includes: correspondence; newspaper clippings; newsletters; publications; manuscripts; flyers; and brochures.

SERIES DESCRIPTION

SERIES 1. BUSINESS PAPERS, ca.1971. FOLDERS 1-4, BOX 1.
This small series consists of information regarding specific individuals followed by correspondence. The material is arranged chronologically according to like materials.

SERIES 2. NEWSPAPERS, 1944-1984. FOLDERS 5-14, BOX 1.
This series consists of newspapers, newspaper clippings, and photocopied newspaper articles. The materials are arranged chronologically within an alphabetical order.

SERIES 3. NEWSLETTERS AND BULLETINS, 1971-1984. FOLDERS 15-23, BOX 1.

This series consists of newsletters and/or bulletins which were sent as mailings to members of the committee and other concerned citizens. The materials are arranged chronologically within an alphabetical order.

SERIES 4. MANUSCRIPTS. FOLDERS 24-27. BOX 1.
This series consists of manuscripts of both published and unpublished materials. As no dates are supplied, the series is arranged alphabetically.

SERIES 5. PUBLICATIONS, 1944-1985. FOLDERS 28-53, BOXES 1-2.
This large series consists of complete and fragmented journal articles and books. It is processed chronologically within an alphabetical order. Materials with unknown publication dates are found at the end of the series.
